The composer Victor Ripped Flowers passed away this Wednesday, at the age of 63, reported the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), through its Twitter account (@bellasartesinba): “With sadness we regret the sensitive death of the musician and composer Víctor Rasgado Flores, whose His prolific career has placed Mexico on the world scene of contemporary music. We send condolences to his family and art community.”

Risgado Flores was born on July 8, 1959 in Mexico City and received awards such as the Alfredo Casella International Composition Prize in 1993 for his work “Revontulet” and, a year later, the Orpheus for chamber operas given by the Teatro Lirico. Experimental, the Wiener Kammeroper and Casa RicordiItalian classical music publishing label, for his one-act opera “Anacleto Morones”, based on the homonymous story by Juan Rulfo.

His professional training as a musician and composer was extensive: Víctor Rasgado graduated from two Mexican institutions (the National School of Music and the Tlamatinime AC Center for Research and Musical Studies) and two Italian ones (the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana). In addition, Ripped Flores had a degree in History from the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM).

The Sones Contemporáneos ensemble was a project created by him and the composer Juan Trigos.

It is worth noting that certain works by Rasgado Flores were inspired by the work of important Mexican artists: in addition to the aforementioned “Anacleto Morones”, his opera “El conejo y el coyote” is based on a series by Francisco Toledo from the late the 1980s.

Another of his operas, “Santa”, is an adaptation of the classic novel of the same name by Federico Gamboa and “Paso del norte” is inspired by “El viaje de los cantores”, a play by Hugo Salcedo.
