Miami, May 3 (EFE).- The man arrested as a suspect in a shooting at a supermarket in southeast Florida in which a person died worked there and was fighting with another employee when the victim tried to separate them, reported Wednesday the Police.

The detainee was identified as Tironie Shavtar Sterling, 22, and has already been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, adjacent to Miami Dade County (southeast Florida).

The events occurred this Tuesday at a Walmart supermarket in Lauderdale Lakes, a town in Broward, and until now no information had been reported on how the shooting occurred.

It was also reported for the first time that, in addition to the deceased customer, whose identity was not disclosed, an employee of the establishment was injured.

According to the police account, Sterling, who was not working on Tuesday, went to the supermarket to meet another employee and got into an argument with her that ended in a physical fight.

A customer in his 30s tried to separate them and struggled with Sterling, who had dropped a gun on the floor, but retrieved it and shot the man multiple times, who was critically wounded and airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead the same Tuesday.

The now detainee fled on a motorcycle but was captured shortly after.

The shooting caused a mass panic inside the store.

“Senseless violence like this is intolerable, and we are heartbroken to learn that a customer was seriously injured while assisting one of our associates (employees),” the company said in a statement.
