At the Rheindorf Middle School, digital education is a matter of course in the lessons every day.

Lustenau “Basic digital education has been mandatory for all schoolchildren since autumn. For one hour a week we teach them the basics on the tablet, show them how to work in Word, what to look out for on the internet and make them fit to use digital media,” explains director Gerd Neururer from the Rheindorf middle school. Even in the first grade, the ability of the inquisitive students is impressive. “The tablet enriches our lessons and the children benefit enormously from it,” says class 1b class teacher Christine Hopfner. In the fall, all students were given their own tablets, which they now own.

“Sinem, would you like to show us your Cyberhomework in English?” asks teacher Christine Hopfner. The student enters the code from the digital blackboard and connects her tablet to it. Everyone in the classroom now follows Sinem’s explanations of how she solved her task. “There are always two of us in class. One teacher explains the tasks, the other teacher helps the students with questions and goes from table to table. It works perfectly,” says Hopfner. The students like it. They take an active and interested part in the lessons and are happy about the diverse possibilities that their own tablet offers.

“The tablets make our everyday school life easier in many ways. We no longer have to solve many tasks in the book. All books are also available in e-format. And when I’m bored at home, I do a math quiz or solve additional tasks,” explains Amina Okurlu proudly. She also finds it practical that if she forgets a book in class, she can still do her homework. “Everything is on our tablet.”

“We are connected in the class via the Teams program and as a result have actually grown even closer together in the class community,” says teacher Hopfner. She can quickly share photos from the hike with the students or contact them at home. “The students are proud when they see what they can do with their own tablet and what a variety of possibilities are open to them,” says Hopfner. “Initially there was a fear that the individual would be lost as a result of the Smartboard. This is by no means the case. We can pick up the students where they are. They learn to present their tasks and gain a sense of achievement,” says Neururer. Teacher Hopfner is also happy about the new blackboard and the students’ tablets. “We give the children a tool that should make their everyday life easier. Dealing with digital media becomes completely natural for them,” says Hopfner. bvs
