The Justice Prosecutor’s Office capital announced the arrest of Gustavo N. Y Arthur N., former high level officials from the other time Mexico City Attorney General’s Officelinked to the espionage of personalities in the political sphere such as Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, as well as their families.
They were elements of the Investigation Police (PDI) those who managed to find the whereabouts of both people to be detained in the streets of the Doctores neighborhood, around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3.
Both subjects were transferred in the first instance to the Central Strategic Investigation Prosecutor’s Office for a medical certification and, subsequently, to the North Prison where they were made available to the judge who required them so that in the next few hours their legal situation could be determined.
Performance in past administration
Gustavo N., served as General Coordinator of Policies, Administration of Planning and Organization of the then Attorney General’s Office; while Arturo N., as deputy director of the area of the Government Secretariat, who was headed at that time by Héctor Serrano until 2015.
The spokesman for the prosecution, Ulises Lara, said in a conference that on December 5, 2018, the complaint was filed for the possible existence of a spy house in Mexico City, located on Calle Manuel Marqués Sterling, in the Centro neighborhood.
The two detainees had active participation in wiretapping, cell phone tapping, as well as messages and emails, for the active monitoring of political figures, sports and journalists.
So far, there are already six people arrested and linked to the process, the previous four are: Nicolás N, then head of Digital Evidence Collection of the Government Secretariat of the capital; José Roberto N, former commander of the intelligence area of the Investigative Police, who in June of last year was brought to trial, for the first time in the history of Mexico City, for the probable commission of the crime of violation of private communication.
In addition to Jesús Noé N, also a former member of the Investigative Police and Daniel Alejandro N, who was an employee of a cell phone company.
The detainees of this day have an alleged participation in the crimes of abusive exercise of functions, violation of private communication and abuse of authority, although in the latter illegal it would only be for Gustavo N.
“Marquez Sterling Case”
During the administration of Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa, political espionage took place, whose network made up of nine former officials had high-level equipment paid for with public money.
Thanks to this, they had access to state-of-the-art technologies, capable of tapping cell phones, manipulating content, remotely activating different applications, telephone and computer equipment.
The nickname “Márquez Sterling Case” is due to the fact that the espionage offices were located at number 15 of Lacalle Manuel Márquez Sterling, in the Centro neighborhood.
