Bregenz (BRK) – On May 13, 2023, the Bregenz lido will open its doors. The first part of the new outdoor pool building was completed just in time for the start of the season.

This is a 90 meter long object in solid construction with 900 m² of usable space and a converted space of 2,800 m³ as well as a covered arcade. It can be reached from the West car park via an entrance with a ticket office and houses changing rooms and lockers as well as showers and toilets. Specifically, there are 24 seasonal cabins that are accessed using chips, 58 day lockers with coin deposit locks, 56 large and 84 small boxes and 64 safes. The construction costs amounted to 2.1 million euros. Special consideration was given to the valuable trees during construction. In addition, more than 60 trees and 70 shrubs were planted with native shrubs appropriate to the location.

This first phase of construction follows an architectural design that ultimately envisages a 240 meter long, narrow outdoor swimming pool building that curves around the stadium curve. When completed, it will have a cubature of 4,152 m³ and will be somewhat reminiscent of the lido from the 1960s and 1970s. The tree islands integrated into the building are intended to create a special atmosphere and quality of stay.

Embedded in a large municipal construction project

The new changing area in the lido is part of the city’s largest municipal construction project to date, namely the current construction of the indoor pool and sauna area with a cubature of over 66,000 m3. A lot has happened on the site since May 1, 2022. A construction pit measuring around 5,500 m² and 5 meters deep was excavated. The basement has already been made groundwater-tight, and the walls of the 6 meter high, approx. 3,000 m2 large bathing hall can also be seen. The 29 meter long roof racks are to be installed by the summer. The facade and interior work, including building services, will then take place from autumn. In 2024, the redesign of the outdoor pool facilities will be tackled. Among other things, there will be a new multi-purpose pool with various attractions such as a flow channel and a new toddler pool. Three quarters of all orders have already been awarded, 80 percent of them to Vorarlberg companies. The opening of the new leisure facility (indoor pool and sauna including outdoor pool facilities) is planned for 2025. The total construction costs are 72.5 million euros plus inflation according to the construction cost index.

“Even if parts of the new leisure facility still look like a big construction site, everyone can already look forward to the 2023 lido season and, of course, to the final expansion by 2025. Investments are made here for families, children, young people and the elderly, but also for our clubs and their well-being. And I will personally work to ensure that both indoor and outdoor admission prices remain affordable for young and old guests alike,” says Mayor Michael Ritsch.
