special illuminations

The “Mining Minds” peak sculpture located at the Sun Bowl-University Roundabout will be illuminated in blue and orange from Wednesday evening, May 10 through Sunday evening, May 14 to commemorate UTEP’s Class of 2023.

“Mining Minds” is an iconic piece of public art installed in 2010 to enhance the UTEP campus. At night, orange lights illuminate the steel structure, while light from LEDs emanates from the “ones” and “zeroes” punched into each end of the spout. The University lights up the selection in blue and orange on special occasions, such as historic dates, major annual milestones, and celebrations of special achievements.

Additionally, One San Jacinto Plaza (formerly the Chase Building) and WestStar Tower downtown will be illuminated in UTEP colors from Friday evening, May 12 through Sunday evening, May 14 to honor graduates.
