When they are released next fall, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus should be equipped with the same 48MP photo sensor as the iPhone 14 Pro. It will therefore be a good improvement compared to the iPhone 14 which had kept the sensor of the iPhone 13.

Last year, the iPhone 14 Pro we tested introduced a new 48 Mpx photo sensor. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is also equipped with it. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus had inherited the 12 Mpx photo sensor from the iPhone 13. This was in particular the reason why there had been no major innovations between the camera of the iPhone 13 and that of the iPhone 14. Fortunately, that is about to change with the iPhone 15 expected in September 2023.

According to analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have the same 48 MP photo sensor as the iPhone 14 Pro. This sensor will significantly improve the photo quality between the basic iPhone 14 and the iPhone 15. Moreover, the iPhone 15 should also accommodate a new sensor from Sony to take better photos in backlight.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have a 48 MP photo sensor, but no LiDAR or telephoto lens

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will therefore benefit from the camera of the iPhone 14 Pro. However, one should not expect to a LiDAR sensor or a telephoto lens on the two “affordable” models of the iPhone 15. In any case, this is what Jeff Pu announced. He claimed his sources are close to Apple’s supply chain.

The 48 Mpx photo sensor is not the only novelty expected for the iPhone 15. Apple must indeed catch up so as not to suffer the failure of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus again. Sales of these two models were particularly disappointing. The iPhone 15 must therefore bring real novelties so as not to share the same fate.

Under the chassis, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus should accommodate the A16 Bionic chip engraved in 4 nm. As for the iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Ultra, the new A17 Bionic chip engraved in 3 nm will allow them to favor autonomy by consuming 35% less energy. Analyst Jeff Pu also confirmed that all iPhone 15 models will come with a USB-C port, which will allow Apple to comply with European regulations. The Cupertino company would also have planned to present the iPhone 15 on September 23, 2023.
