Honor where credit is due

The market town of Hörbranz was able to invite people to the traditional New Year’s reception after the forced break caused by the corona virus. mayor Andrew Kresser was visibly pleased when welcoming the guests at the festival to be able to focus on honorary posts and well-deserved Hörbranzer personalities in this context for the first time since taking office.

The start of the festive evening was the awarding of the market community’s environmental prize. The head of the Hörbranz e-5 team, Hannes Muehlbacherrecognized the initiative of Kurt and Monica Dorler such as Richard, Erika, Mark and Sarah Hehlewho have set up a local heating system in order to be able to supply several buildings with heat in a sustainable manner using renewable biomass (wood chips). “It is our common obligation to leave our children, our grandchildren, our descendants a clean and, in view of climate change, a healthy world. The Dörler and Hehle families set a good example here,” says Mühlbacher.

Hubert Sigg – former choir chairman – mentioned in his laudatory speech how Werner dutifully, prudently and with a commitment that can hardly be surpassed led the choir over the years.

Werner Hansjakob was honored once more, namely for his commitment to the Hörbranz library and games room over the past 35 years. The director of this valuable facility was also honored Brunhilde Haider, who has been volunteering here since it opened in 1986. Thanks also went to the market town of Hörbranz for many years of service in the library Evi Fink-Zani (35 years), Eva Illmer, Lisa Ender and Manuela Hack (25 years), Roswitha Vettori, Richard Fink and Monica Vogel (ten years).

The athletes of the Stick Shooting Clubsthe dog sports club and the table tennis clubs numerous titles. Also the wrestlers of AC Hörbranz were once again successful at national and international level. The athletes of Gymnastics Association Hörbranz won numerous titles at state and federal level.

It then got emotional during the last official program point of the evening, when the hall went dark and images of the terrible war in Ukraine were shown on the screen. For the song “Heal the World” photos of the successful relief campaign “Leiblachtal helpsshown. Visibly touched and to prolonged applause, the transport company then came Christian Bechter, who started this initiative, took the stage with his team. “I just wanted to help. We would never have thought that with the appeal for this aid campaign we would be able to do three trucks right away. The willingness to help of the people of Leiblachtal and the many sub-themes that have donated relief supplies was and is overwhelming,” said Bechter. The descriptions given by the Hörbranz transport company about what they experienced during the transport were also impressive: “It’s an oppressive feeling when you’re in a war zone and the air raid alarm suddenly sounds.”

Bechter wants to continue to help, as he emphasizes: “On January 13th, 2023 we will be driving to the Ukraine again with a truck. We have received so much sponsorship from various companies that we are already bringing a truck full.”

Next Thursday, January 12, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., there will also be a truck at the parking lot at Forum Leiblachtal (formerly Salvatorkolleg). Aid goods are gladly accepted there again (packed in boxes and labeled with the contents). “This is what community, service to others and volunteering is all about. Doing good together for our society.” With these words, Mayor Kresser once again thanked everyone present, who made so many things possible with their commitment, before the Hörbranz music club, which ceremonially framed the entire evening, played the closing song.
