On the first of January, the new legislation on ID marking comes into force. The chip makes it easier for the cats to be traced back to their owners, and all cats will also be re-registered. Kattakuten’s founder, Camilla Axelsson Zerpe, talks about the long-awaited announcement.

– It is something we have wanted for a long time. But then time will tell how quickly the change will actually take place. It will hardly happen overnight, she says.

3,000 cats

Since the start of the association Kattakuten, in 2006, approximately 3,000 cats have been cared for. Now the founder wants the number to drop and the work to be simplified with the new legislation.

– Above all, we hope that when we find cats, it will be easier to find the owner faster. It will hopefully be easier now, says Zerpe Karlsson.
