dr Kurt-Christian Scheel officially starts at the beginning of the new year as general manager of the Central Association of the German Motor Trade (ZDK). The members of the ZDK board unanimously voted for him in May 2022 after a months-long selection process. In June 2022, Scheel was then confirmed as the new general manager at the ZDK general meeting.

The 54-year-old succeeds Axel Koblitz, who has retired after 21 years in office. Scheel comes from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), where he headed the European Policy and Law department and reported directly to VDA President Müller. Scheel has over 25 years of experience at the interface between politics and business. Previously, he held management positions at Robert Bosch GmbH and the Federation of German Industries (BDI). In these functions, he was able to actively shape many current legal and political developments in the automotive industry.

For ZDK President Jürgen Karpinski, Kurt-Christian Scheel was the perfect choice: “Dr. Scheel has everything that is required in this position. He has gained experience in various associations, has in-depth knowledge of the automotive industry and is also very well in Berlin connected. I look forward to working together.”

Kurt-Christian Scheel expressly thanked his predecessor Axel Koblitz for the work done and at the same time looked to the future with optimism: “In times of transformation like the one we are currently experiencing, there are risks and opportunities. To seize the opportunities and use them successfully for our companies , that must be our goal.”
