Nintendo released its latest quarterly report this week. There, the company revealed, among other things, that the Switch console has now sold 122.55 million copies.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sell out.

The hybrid machine has thus climbed past the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, which combined have sold 118.69 million. The PlayStation 4 is now also in the rearview mirror, with its 117.2 million from when Sony stopped reporting sales figures in August last year.

The Switch is now officially in third place on the list of best-selling consoles. Admittedly, there is still some way up to Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2, which reign with 154.02 and 155 million respectively.

Otherwise, Nintendo could say that the latest Pokémon games, Scarlet and Violet, have sold well over 20 million copies in their first six weeks. In the same period, Splatoon 3 reached 10.13 million and Nintendo Switch Sports 8.61 million sold.

Nevertheless, Nintendo had a weaker overall profit compared to the previous year. The company also downgraded expectations for the financial year – which ends March 31 – with an assumed decline in consoles and games sold.

Market analyst Hideki Yasuda explains Bloomberg that the decline came as a surprise. Yasuda believes this proves that the Switch is on the decline, although it may still pick up with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in May.

As far as upcoming games are concerned, Nintendo has announced a new Direct presentation focusing on titles that will be launched in the first half of 2023. This will be held already tonight, i.e. February 8, at 23:00 Norwegian time.
