The police in Oslo receive a lot of calls about slippery roads and difficult driving conditions on Saturday at 5pm.

The notifications come from all the municipalities the police district is responsible for, which are Oslo, Asker and Bærum.

– There will be no end to it. We get so many calls that we end up having to ask people not to call us. Call us about accidents and matters concerning life and health, which are things we can do something about. Unfortunately, we can’t come out and sprinkle, says operations manager Lina Odden Lerhol.

Clear call

The operations manager also makes another clear appeal to everyone who is considering setting out on the roads.

– Yesterday it rained, and today the rain came. This leads to very difficult driving conditions in several places. If you don’t need to drive today, we recommend you leave the car, says Odden Lerhol.

She does not have an overview of how many people called on Saturday afternoon, but says there are far more than on a normal winter’s day.

– If you can, use public transport.

Yellow hazard warning

A yellow danger warning has been issued in Eastern Norway, and meteorologists are asking people to consider using stingers. The ice can be difficult to see.

– From Saturday morning there is a risk of ice due to a change to mild weather and rain that freezes on the ground in southern areas.

Beyond the afternoon, this also applies to the areas north towards Mjøsa, says the danger warning.

Vegtrafikksentralen East says that there are currently no reports of the biggest challenges outside of Oslo and the surrounding area.

– It is going well on the main roads and no slippery conditions have been reported. There is still a general danger of water in the roadway and slippery roads in the evening, says Mikael Olsen, traffic operator at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

On the main roads, where there are large plow edges, there is a risk of a lot of water in the roadway when the weather becomes mild.

– The problem with the small roads is that they are not just. When it rains, the snow quickly turns to ice, says Olsen.

The Norwegian Road Traffic Center monitors the situation throughout.
