The prognosis of brain tumors depends on their aggressiveness

MIAMI.- International Tumor Day Brain It’s June 8th. This anniversary has been recorded since 2000, at the initiative of the German Brain Tumor Association and in order to raise awareness among the population.

The origin of the majority of these tumors is considered to be multifactorial. In this sense, they can be generated hereditarily (neurofibromas) or by induction due to physical agents, as in the case of radiotherapy.

This type of tumor is an uncontrolled growth of the cells in the brain. Thus, when these cells are identical to those that make up normal brain tissue, the tumor is benign. Malignant tumors (cancer) appear when abnormal cells have lost their ability to properly perform their functions.

The WHO indicates that brain health is the state of brain functioning in the cognitive, sensory, socio-emotional, behavioral and motor domains, which allows a person to develop their full potential throughout life.

The prognosis of these tumors depends on their aggressiveness. In this sense, magnetic resonance imaging allows us to specify brain tissue lesions, as well as their location and size.

New therapy

This year, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) reported that a new therapy dual-target cell therapy against cancer focused on the immune system shows promising results in reducing aggressive brain tumors.

This is CAR-T therapy, which harnesses the power of the patient’s immune system’s T cells, which are reprogrammed to seek out and destroy a specific protein found on cancer cells.

Among the symptoms that brain tumors can present are the following:

– Headache.

– Drowsiness.

– Nausea and vomiting.

– In severe cases, loss of consciousness may occur.

– Alteration of languagevisual disturbance, and memory problems.

Before getting alarmed, the first thing is to consult a specialist doctor to evaluate your health.
