The prosecution proposes March 4 for the trial against Trump in the Georgia case, one day before 'Super Tuesday'

MADRID, 16 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has proposed March 4, 2024 as a possible trial date for former US President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants in the Georgia election interference case. the 2020 presidential elections.

In the event that the date is accepted, Trump would go to trial one day before what is known as ‘Super Tuesday’, a day of simultaneous voting in different states, key to the election of delegates during the Republican primaries, the CNN network has collected.

A Georgia grand jury indicted former President Trump and 18 defendants on 41 counts over their attempts to overturn the election result, including a controversial call to Georgia Secretary of State Republican Brad Raffensperger directly urging her to ” find” the missing votes.

Thus, Trump has been accused, for example, of inciting public officials, including former Vice President Mike Pence, to violate their oath, of making false statements, of distributing fraudulent documents at polling stations, of harassing poll workers after their defeat in Georgia and acts of obstruction.

This is the fourth indictment that Trump has received, and the second for trying to interfere in the elections. Unlike the charges filed by special counsel Jack Smith, the former president would not be able to pardon himself or his associates if convicted and re-elected as president of the country, as it is a state conviction.
