Several countries are currently trying to get their diplomats and citizens out of the country, including Sweden. The Swedish government want to send an armed force for evacuation.
However, a Riksdag decision is required for an armed force to be able to support and carry out an evacuation operation. Therefore, have the speaker called to a chamber meeting at 10 a.m. on Sunday to deal with the matter. Prior to that, the Foreign Affairs Committee meets, which must submit the proposal to the Riksdag.
Decisions are made on Sunday
At 10:30 a.m., the Riksdag chamber is expected to make a decision on the proposal. The meeting is chaired by chairman Andreas Norlén. At least 17 members must be present for a decision to be made.
The fact that the Riksdag is called in extra depends on the fact that the effort must take place quickly. Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) and Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) announced the signing a press conference on Saturday that it can be carried out within 24 hours after the Riksdag says yes.
Around 100 Swedes
About 100 Swedish citizens are in Sudan, where battles are raging between two military phalanxes. The evacuation effort is primarily about personnel at the Swedish embassy in Khartoum. About ten seconded personnel work at the embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tells SVT Nyheter. These are sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sida and the Swedish Migration Agency.
