Not much has been said about the new upcoming Fable since the announcement in 2020, since the short teaser we haven’t seen either gameplay or any kind of story trailer. Of course, this means that rumors that the development may not be going so well start to spread and recently there have been rumors that Playground Games has restarted the development completely and started over in Unreal Engine. Something that has also led to speculation that the game may not be released until 2026-2027 sometime.

These rumors that started on 4chan, which can hardly be considered a completely reliable source, have now been met by journalist Christopher Dring at GamesIndustry, who briefly writes that this is not true on his Twitter. It would of course be much better if Microsoft or Playground Games themselves came out and addressed this or updated us on the game, but Dring seems to have some insight so for now we’ll have to hope he’s right here. However, it is worth pointing out that this is not the first time there have been rumors that the development is not going completely according to plan, no smoke without fire as they say.

The only thing we know at the moment is that Fable is in development for Xbox Series S/X and PC, hopefully we will know more in the not too distant future.

What do you think? Is there any substance to the rumors about Fable’s development?

Fable is still under development, but how things are going for Playground is a bit unclear at the moment.
