This Saturday, the Russian public television channel RT announced that it will stop working in Francebecause the authorities of that country blocked their bank accounts, as a sanction in relation to the war in Ukraine.

In addition, from the authorities, a statement was issued that was shared on Twitter by the director of the medium, Xenia Fedorova: “after five years of perseverance, the authorities achieved their goal: the closure of RT France.”

Then, it was added that “under the pretext of a package of 9 sanctions against Russia, which they do not mention to us, but only to our shareholder in the parent company, the general directorate of the Treasury decided to freeze the bank accounts of RT Francewhich makes our work impossible.”

At the same time, it was explained that these measures make it impossible for the medium to function and that in this way, around 123 French workers will lose their jobs, 77 of them are journalists.

Finally, the Europa Press agency explained that both RT and Sputnik have been banned from broadcasting in the European Union since March 2022 nor did the judicial resources presented in this regard prosper.
