Despite disappointing Exynos SoCs in recent years, Samsung is not done with manufacturing processors. Several rumors indicate that Samsung continues the development of SoC for its smartphones that are not part of the high end. This indicates the arrival of a potential Samsung Galaxy S22 FE, more affordable than the other current S22s.

According to Digitimes (via German media WinFuture), Samsung would continue to develop its own SoCs. Less powerful chips than the best from MediaTek or Qualcomm, for example with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 presented recently. If we can think that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will benefit from this SoC, a potential Galaxy S22 FE could appear, equipped with an Exynos 2300 processor.

Samsung would have changed its strategy for its Galaxy S22 FE

While we thought that Samsung had abandoned the project of a Galaxy S22 FE, it seems that the manufacturer has returned to it. Rumors indicated a few months ago that the development of the Exynos had been stopped for the high-end models. Two weeks ago, however, we learned that a team within Samsung had been formed to work on new smartphone chips. The brand itself said it would continue to work with AMD on ARM chips. One of them, the Exynos 2300, could arrive much faster than expected with a Galaxy S22 FE coming out soon.

According to information from WinFuturee : “We now hear that Samsung wants to use the new octacore chip, which should be manufactured in a factory of the group with a structure width of only four nanometers.“The media adds that:”Samsung could also switch to 5-nanometer-scale manufacturing, which would make the chip slightly less power efficient, but reduce manufacturing costs and increase production yield.»

A different positioning for the next model “Fan Edition»

Smartphones “Fan Edition» from Samsung have always been positioned slightly below the basic version of the Galaxy S, with an often more attractive price. But last year, we criticized the Galaxy S21 FE for its price, especially compared to the classic Galaxy S21. An error that Samsung would have understood, since the Galaxy S22 FE would be positioned in the mid-range; “the new model should represent a kind of replacement […] of the Galaxy A series“. Especially since we recently learned that the Galaxy A73 would have no successor. This would corroborate the arrival of a Galaxy S23 FE which would benefit from a Snapdragon chip reserved for the mid-range.

However, aside from these new rumors, there is no indication that the Galaxy S22 FE will be launched and the Exynos 2300 has not been seen in public databases for several months. The potential release of this smartphone should therefore be taken with a grain of salt. However, we can think that in a few years, Samsung’s premium smartphones could be equipped with its own chips.
