Disruptions are to be expected in ski resorts in February. The CGT and Force Ouvrière filed an indefinite strike notice from January 31 for the following month, reports RMC.

The two unions represent 100% of the votes in French ski resorts, according to the radio. Force Ouvrière filed this notice on Monday, joining the CGT which had already filed it.

“By dint of working, we will be older than our patients”: words of demonstrators in the Parisian procession

The demands of the unions concern in particular the withdrawal of the pension reform, but also go beyond those of the inter-union, since they are also asking for better wages and unemployment insurance adapted to seasonal workers and better working conditions, such as shown in the notice template posted on Twitter by one of the unions.

“This strike for the preservation of know-how, skills, and a profession necessary for ski resorts and therefore for tourism and GDP”explains to “Obs” Eric Becker, general secretary of the ski lifts at Force Ouvrière.

Actions planned during the Ski World Cup

In concrete terms, it is unlikely that ski resort employees will be on strike every day in February. It will above all be a question of sticking to the dates chosen by the inter-union, beyond that already planned for next January 31.

Staggered season, snow cannons, paragliding or mountain biking: ski resorts adapt to the lack of snow

“What we want is a day to put the package, make it understood that there is a malaise and work to find something constructive”, says Eric Becker, stating that the requests made to the Ministry of Labor have not been successful.

According to RMC, the CGT is also considering “strong action” during the Ski World Cup to be held in Courchevel and Méribel on March 16 and 20.

Ski resorts have been put to the test in recent years, between the Covid-19 and the lack of snow which have greatly hampered their activity.
