The Smile, amazing musical journey at the National Auditorium

MEXICO CITY (APRO).- The amazing sound journey of the British group The Smile made the National Auditorium vibrate with rock this Wednesday night, offering a tour of their album “A Light for Attracting Attention” in addition to including unpublished songs for delight of his fans.

The ensemble that emerged in 2020 is made up of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, both belonging to the acclaimed Radiohead group, accompanied by Tom Skinner, who was part of the now-defunct jazz band Sons of Kemet.

On their first visit to Mexico, the powerful rock trio emerged punctually sheltered in a conceptual scenery of futuristic stylistics. Behind the musicians in the background, a blanket of neon and laser lights flashed, depicting a cosmic journey.

The cathartic outburst of the respectable resounded in howls to the chords of “The Same” and “Thin Thing”. The good Thomas “Thom” Edward Yorke, 54-year-old vocalist leader who at all times was grateful to his followers, caught the eye.

The gala shone for the genius of its multi-instrumentalist members, Yorke interspersed on bass, guitars, piano and synthesizers, while Greenwood also shone on bass, as well as guitars, piano and synthesizers, Skinner doing the same on drums and synths. In some cuts they complemented accompaniments by saxophonist Robert Stillman, an artist who also served as the show’s opener, being the special guest on the band’s tour.

The technical team stood out, whose members were observed parading in the shadows of the stage, giving the musicians the right instrument to achieve the artistic virtuosity displayed by The Smile.

An intimate format was built in the emblematic building on Avenida Reforma, with an audience standing in front of the stage and the usual seats, in which the majority of those gathered remained seated in euphoric applause between each song.

The repertoire considered “The Opposite”, “Speech Bubbles”, the delirious “A Hairdryer”. It progressed to “Waving a White Flag” and “Colours Fly”, plus the earth-shattering shuffle “We Don’t Know What Tomorrow Brings”. Also, “Free in the Knowledge”, “Skrting on the Surface” and the ripping of “Read the Room”. In the show The Smile he shone with “Pana-Vision” and “The Smoke”, to draw the sunset to the rhythms of “You Will Never Work in Television Again” and “Under Our Pillows”.

The simulated goodbye made a vertiginous comeback, resounding with “Open the Floodgates”, “People on Balconies” and “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses”, to give away in an inexorable settlement “Bending Hectic”.

Bowing gratitude from Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner, raised the fans’ frenzied roars of satisfaction. The Smile will offer a second date this Thursday June 22 at the National Auditorium.
