But things got out of control when the dad went to pick Kayla up after one of these visits, realizing that Heather had taken her “on a trip” on July 5, 2017 from South Elgin, Illinois. It was not until July 28 that the police issued a warrant for the arrest of Unbehaun for kidnapping. and since then, Ryan hadn’t seen his daughter.
Throughout all that time, Ryan Iserka put together a campaign on social networks to try to find the whereabouts of Kayla Unbehaun, but neither he nor the authorities managed to find it. In that third part of the Netflix series, -specifically in the ninth and last episode-, tell a couple of cases of children who were kidnapped by their parents. In the end, photos of children who are missing appear along with images of the people who took them. And even if you don’t believe it, showing Kayla’s face served to find her.
According to America’s National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) On May 13, a North Carolina store owner called police to say he had seen Kayla Unbehaum in his business.because he recognized her after checking her case in Unsolved Mysteries.
Of course the police thought it was a joke, but upon arrival at the store, indeed they found Kayla and not only that, Heather Unbenhaun was also with her, who, as you can imagine, ended up arrested. What’s more, even Netflix found out what happened and they published that a viewer of the series solved the case.
