The Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) has settled the war between the University of Alicante and the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche: the two will have the career of Medicine. He has dismissed the appeal of the people from Elche against the fact that it is also offered in the capital of the province.
Thus, the Degree in Medicine will start the next academic year of 2023-24 with 86 places on the San Vicente del Raspeig campus, after receiving the endorsement of the TJSCV, whose fourth section has agreed to deny the precautionary measure requested by the UMH to suspend its implementation at the UA.
The room understands that the implementation of these studies does not harm, in principle, those of the same degree in the Elche center. According to the TSJCV, in this case they come into play “public interests that they deserve equal protection”; “There is no appearance of good law if we take into account the process followed for the approval of the disputed degree in progress” nor are there “irreversible situations that cannot be replaced” in the case of estimating the appeal.
The UMH had argued against the possible saturation as both faculties were in a close area. In fact, since its facilities are physically next to the Hospital de San Juan and not in Elche, in the future it will be possible to study the same studies at a distance of just ten kilometers.
The rector of the AU, Amparo Navarrohas been shown to be “very satisfied»with the resolution »because it will allow 86 students and their 86 families to see fulfilled the dream of pursuing these very vocational studies in a public university with a great tradition and accredited scientific and academic solvency».
“On July 14, when the pre-registration process is complete, these 86 places will have the name and surname of what will be the first promotion of the Medicine degree at the University of Alicante”, said the rector, who has sent in a communicated a “message of optimism towards all the students who want to apply for one of these places”.
