The US analyzes sending another $275 million to Ukraine

WASHINGTON .-The United States will announce another $275 million in military assistance for Ukraine on Friday, two official sources said, as kyiv struggles to defend itself against a Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region.

It will be the fourth delivery of military aid to Ukraine after Congress, after a long delay, approved a foreign assistance bill last month. It also comes as the US government has promised to maintain the regular flow of weapons to Ukraine and deliver them to the front lines as soon as possible.

The package includes high-mobility artillery rocket systems, or HIMARS, as well as high-demand 150mm and 105mm artillery rounds, according to the two U.S. officials.who spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details of the aid package before it is publicly announced.

This comes after a monthly meeting on Monday of around 50 defense leaders from Europe and elsewhere, who meet regularly to coordinate securing more military aid for Ukraine. At the most recent meeting, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Ukraine was in “a difficult time” because of the new Russian onslaught on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. “week after week”.

Russia has sought to take advantage of Ukraine’s shortage of troops and weapons as the country awaits the arrival of more American aid, which has been delayed for months in Congress. Ukrainian forces have been forced back in several places, while Russia has attacked the power grid and civilian areas.

In the months following President Joe Biden’s approval of the $95 billion foreign aid package that includes nearly $61 billion for Ukraine, the United States announced and began shipping nearly $1.7 billion in weapons, taken of the Pentagon reserves.
