The US administration has decided to ban the Chinese application from its employees’ laptops. She mentions a security risk.

Whether for professional or personal reasons, employees of the United States House of Representatives (US equivalent of the National Assembly) will now be prohibited from using TikTok.

The measure was formalized by Catherine L. Szpindor, administrative director of the Chamber. It indicates that the department in charge of cybersecurity judged that the Chinese application presented a major risk for users due to the number of security vulnerabilities.

Prohibition to use or download

In effect, members and employees of the House of Representatives will no longer be allowed to download TikTok on their work phones. If they already have it on their mobile, they are asked to delete the application as soon as possible.

This ban only reinforces the tensions that currently reign between the United States and the Chinese social network. A bill to ban TikTok was notably tabled by several American elected officials. The latter propose to prevent the activities of social networks originating from, or being under the influence of, a country considered an enemy of the United States, and it lists China among them.

the FBI also expressed concern possible abuses of TikTok. The US intelligence service accuses the platform of spying and not knowing how to properly manage the personal data of its more than a billion users.
