Washington, Apr 26 (EFE).- The United States will host an investment of 1.5 billion dollars in semiconductors by the German multinational Bosch in its territory, which was celebrated this Wednesday by the White House.

According to a US government statement, Bosch is going to acquire US chipmaker TSI semiconductors, based in Roseville, California, and intends to invest $1.5 billion in semiconductor manufacturing in the North American country.

The US Vice President, Kamala Harris, indicated that this investment will reduce costs, strengthen the electric vehicle supply chain and help “rebuild” the American industrial fabric, in addition to helping create opportunities for California workers.

“It will put more electric vehicles on the roads, a priority for which I have worked since I was a US senator,” said Harris, who stressed that this has been possible thanks to the investment agenda of the US Executive.

The vice president also took advantage of the note to criticize the Republicans, who she considered working to “undo” this progress. “They want to defund American industry and send jobs abroad. President (Joe) Biden and I will never allow that to happen.”

The US is encouraging the manufacturing of microchips and semiconductors in the country, as part of its trade competition with China, through a law approved last year by Congress, which plans to allocate more than 50,000 million dollars to revitalize the national industry in this field with aid and credits for companies.

In this regard, Biden assured that he is not afraid of China, in a joint conference at the White House with his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk-yeol, when asked about the measures adopted by the US in this area.

He recalled the chip law passed last year and said it was not designed to harm China, but rather so that the US does not have to worry about whether or not it has access to semiconductors. In this sense, he alluded to the supply problems that occurred during the pandemic.

“The only thing I have said about China is about certain extremely sophisticated semiconductors that we have created that are useful for nuclear systems and/or other weapons systems. Those are the ones that we are not going to sell, we are not going to export to China or to anyone else, ”he stressed.

The United States Government considers the domestic manufacture of microprocessors a key issue for the economy and national security, especially given China’s great market dominance in this field.

The global economy has been affected since 2020 by a shortage of microchips, caused in part by the effects of the covid-19 pandemic, trade tensions between China and the United States and climatic factors.
