On Christmas Day came along The Witcher: Blood Origin a four-episode prequel to the popular Netflix series onto the platform. And the first ratings for the project are more than catastrophic. Both fans and critics are by no means enthusiastic about the prequel. A discrepancy such as in the case of the Disney Plus Series Willow is therefore not recognizable. On Rotten Tomatoes, the tomatometer, which is the average value for the press, is miserable 38 percent. The miniseries audience score is included 9 percent.

Lots of criticism for Blood Origin

Screenrant emphasizes that many critics are particularly harsh on the set-up and the characters of the series. While there’s potential for a story set 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher series, the well-established pattern of a squad of characters on a journey together just seems to have died out.

Added bad in the eyes of many people dialogueswhich are repeatedly described with foreign shame as the primary attribute, lousy storytelling or terrible CGI. The cause Henry Cavill should not have helped the series in the audience score either. The website CBR notes that among the approximately 2,400 audience reviews there are some examples that throw the actor into the room in their evaluation of the series.

In the audience reviews, the series is also occasionally accused of “forced diversity”. However, Forbes emphasizes that the majority of the content-related problems of the series and not the casting or the Cavill-Causa are addressed. Nevertheless, there are also voices on Rotten Tomatoes that praise the diversity of the cast or the action scenes of the series. But all in all, a very negative mood remains.
