The last few months may not have been easy for Henry Cavill. The British actor, who rose to global fame in 2013’s Man of Steel, made an acclaimed comeback as Superman via a cameo in Black Adam. A few weeks later, he was unceremoniously kicked out by James Gunn, the filmmaker behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and DC’s new strongman. To make matters worse, it was also announced before these events that he would be leaving a Netflix series that was very popular with fans.
Henry Cavill quits as Geralt in The Witcher series
The Witcher 3 from the Polish developer CD Projekt Red is considered one of the most popular and successful role-playing games of all time. The streaming platform Netflix recognized the enormous potential of the franchise, grabbed the license for a film adaptation and realized in 2019 a series that’s now spanned two seasons and a fan-torn spin-off.
With his portrayal as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, Henry Cavill managed to break away from Superman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU and to secure a second mainstay in the form of another iconic role. However, to everyone’s surprise, it was announced in October last year that he would be stepping down as a lead actor after The Witcher’s third season on Netflix.

However, before it gets that far, we will see Henry Cavill once again as Geralt of Rivia on the home screens. The Australian will then Liam Hemsworth following in the footsteps of its predecessor from Season 4. The 33-year-old became world-famous in one fell swoop in 2012 thanks to the best-selling film The Hunger Games.
When exactly the third season of The Witcher will appear on Netflix is not yet known. It is said to be in the summer of 2023. On the official twitter account the series was now, however, the first teaser poster published. It shows the three main characters Geralt von Rivia, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon from Cintra and Yennefer von Vengenberg in an impressive pose.
The witcher, his foster daughter and the sorceress (and great love of Geralt) present themselves to the excited audience closely entwined. The teaser poster for the new season of The Witcher features the telling phrase “Hold tight. ‘Til tomorrow.” circumscribed, which means something like “Hold on to one another until morning”. So there will be a bigger announcement that will give more details on what we hope will be a goodbye to Henry Cavill in The Witcher.
