The drama, which was part of the official selection of the SXSW Film and TV Festival 2023, was created by David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies”, “The Undoing”) y dirigido por Lesli Linka Glatter (“Homeland”, “The Morning Show”). It tells the story of two devoted couples: Candy and Pat Montgomery, and Betty and Allan Gore; everyone enjoys their life in a small town in Texas, however, that tranquility is disturbed by an extramarital affair.

It is a true story, which shook the United States in the ’80s, when the housewife Candy is accused of murdering Betty in her home. For that they took as a base the chapter «Love & Death In Silicon Prairie, Part I & II» from the book “Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs”, from the authors Jim Atkinson y John Bloom.

Let’s remember that the case already had an adaptation on the small screen at the hands of Nick Antosca y Robin Veithwho created the miniseries “Candy” starring Jessica Biel and Melanie Lynskey. “We try to entertain and tell a story”; said the protagonist Elizabeth Olsen (“Wandavision”) a Filo.news in a roundtable, regarding the impact that this new version will have on today’s society.

Jesse Plemons (“Breaking Bad”)who puts himself in the shoes of Allan Gore, he expanded: “The further I got into the process, the more I felt like there really wasn’t one person who was totally at fault. In the end it leaves you feeling very strange, because you can’t like it, it’s not clear who to blame. It’s like director Lesli said, it’s really an American tragedy.”

“We talked a lot about how if only one thing happened differently, maybe all of this wouldn’t have happened. Many times in real life we say this phrase of “my truth”, but “my truth” is really like “my version”, not “the truth”, “continued the actress who plays Candy Montgomery in dialogue with this medium.

“This is an American tragedy,” analyzed Jesse Plemons.

Patrick Fugit (“Almost Famous”) interpreta a Pat Montgomery: “I have a character who needs to have a good relationship with Candy, the Lizzie character. But it also needs to be somewhat absent and not enough that it makes sense for her to look at it in a certain way. She is a very supportive character because of the way David wrote it,” she stated in the chat.

She then continued: “It was about really finding out how Candy and Pat were going to be together and that ended up being like a really fun thing… Lizzie and I get along really well, we have good chemistry, a good relationship. So it was about putting that into the characters.”

For Lily Rabe (“American Horror Story”), who plays Betty Gore, the show “isn’t about people who are disconnected, it’s about people who are struggling to connect”: “It’s not about bad relationships, it’s about missteps and a kind of miscommunication.”

“There was incredible chemistry. I love working with Patrick and Lizzie is amazing and Jesse and I… when we met we felt like we knew each other a long time. I think handling these relationships and these characters with care was the most wonderful challenge.”
