The Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, revealed that 11,000 gas stations were extorted by officials of the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco) with illegal payments that exceeded up to 3 billion pesos a year.

During an interview on Channel 14, of the Public Broadcasting System (SPR), the official assured that public servants of the agency headed by Ricardo Sheffield charged a monthly fee of between 20 and 25 thousand pesos to service stations throughout the country.

The person in charge of internal politics recognized that the Moche, known as “La Vaccina”, could continue today, despite the fact that the officials involved in these acts of corruption were dismissed.

“The gas stations that are watching this interview do not let me lie, one fine day a group of gas stations came to see me and said: Do you know that all the gas stations in the country, of the 16 thousand gas stations in the country, 11 thousand, I think they told me, they pay a fee of 20 and 25 thousand pesos a month? They call it ‘La Vaccina’.

“And I began to investigate and we cut it off and the Profeco official who was in charge of that was blamed and blamed. Perhaps that mafia still continues to charge some gas stations, because the information has not permeated, but we are Working on it”.

Although he did not give details about the names or the charges, in May 2022, the federal government carried out a “purge” in Profeco.

The Ministry of the Interior, already headed by López, reported on the dismissal of officials, in agreement with the Secretary of Public Administration, Roberto Salcedo Aquino.

At that time, it was ensured that, even in the case of irregularities of an administrative and legal nature, complaints were filed with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

The investigations in Profeco caused the inconvenience of its owner, who said he was not aware of the irregularities and hoped that the decision does not have a political background.
