Frank DiLella, host of “On Stage” on our sister network NY1, shares his list of shows and plays that he recommends for this week.
We begin with the musical TITANIC, produced by Encores at the New York City Center.
The show tells the story of passengers and crew members aboard the British ocean liner.
The musical sets sail on Tuesday and will run until June 23.
Based on the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and starring Tony winner André De Shields, “CATS: The Jellicle Ball” is not to be missed.
This new staging of the 1982 Broadway mega-musical is inspired by the ballroom culture that was popularized in the queer, gay and trans scene in New York City more than five decades ago.
At the Midnight Theatre, don’t miss CLUB ACT, a journey through the world of jazz dance, all through the lens of legendary choreographer and pioneer Jack Cole.
Under the direction of Camden Loeser, the evening will feature The Jack Cole Dancers.
From Monday until June 24.
Also on Monday, West End actor Rob Houchen will make his Chelsea Table and Stage debut.
Rob will perform tunes from his musical theater career and will be accompanied by some special guests, including Reeve Carney.
And finally, at the Tribeca Film Festival don’t miss the world premiere of “LIZA: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story.”
The documentary addresses the life of the legendary actress, dancer and singer Liza Minnelli. It will begin screening on June 12.
