They look like they’re balancing or someone has stacked them on top of each other for fun: whimsical rock formations. Here you can see them.

They look like mushrooms sticking out of the ground, appear as if they are about to fall or fall over: there are rock formations all over the world. They were designed solely by Mother Nature. In this photo show you can see the most fascinating specimens worldwide.

Test of courage at 1,000 meters above sea level

A particularly spectacular sight is certainly the Kjeragbolten on the Lysefjord in Norway. This huge rock looks like it fell into a crevice and got stuck. If you want, you can stand on the bolt and immortalize it. However, this only applies to the very brave, after all, the Brocken hangs 1,000 meters above the fjord.

Visitors to the famous “Golden Rock” of Myanmar should not only have a head for heights, but also be in good physical condition, as they have to walk about four kilometers. As a reward for the effort there is an impressive view. The huge boulder leans dangerously over the edge, without major incidents. According to legend, a hair of Buddha prevented the fall.

Utah – state of stone marvels

In particular, the US state of Utah offers some stone marvels. This includes the “Balanced Rock” – a stone that lies on top of a rock tower. It seems as if an invisible hand is keeping it from falling. The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in the extreme south of Utah is no slouch in this respect and presents the visitor’s eye with mushrooms that have turned to stone, the so-called “Mushroom Rocks”. Guaranteed non-toxic, but inedible – they are only good food as subjects for cameras.

But Germany also has impressive rock formations to offer. For example, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony offer a fascinating mix of stone formations, rocks, gorges, caves and forests.

Also to be found in Germany: About 30 meter high rocks in the Teutoburg Forest, which were worked on by human hands, but to this day it is not clear who worked countless stairs, corridors and figures into the rocks.

And the far north also has a special rock to offer: The “Lange Anna” on Helgoland is almost 50 meters high and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. But: The rock could be gone one day, because the “long Anna” is crumbling.
