They are looking for a Hispanic accused of impersonating an HPD officer

HOUSTON – Investigators with the Houston Police Department are on the trail of a 51-year-old Hispanic man accused of posing as a police officer in the Spring Branch area.

According to authorities, Luis E. Rivas, 51, posed as an HPD officer on May 24 outside a well-known Honduran restaurant in the Spring Branch area, “Mi Pueblo Catracho.”

That day, according to the documents filed in the Harris County court, Rivas threatened two Hispanics with “sending them to jail” because one of them -according to the false officer- appeared to be drunk.

Rivas, according to videos obtained by the authorities, used lights for the exclusive use of the police, as well as a police badge and a vest similar to those worn by officers, in his exchange with Nelson Pineda and Benjamín Vásquez. He also, apparently, had a weapon in his possession.

One of these, suspecting Rivas’s legality, called 911, which alerted the suspect, who then decided to tell them to leave the scene. After this he undertook the escape.

Now, the authorities are looking for him and are asking for help from the community to find his whereabouts.
