They find the bodies of 3 lost hikers on a mountain in Scotland

The trio set out in Glen Coe on Saturday to hike the Aonach Eagach, a sharp 6-mile (10-kilometre) ridge that tops out at 3,600 feet (1,100 meters) and has steep drops. The search began after sunset when they did not return, police said.

A Coast Guard helicopter flying through fog located the bodies and a search and rescue team returned Sunday morning to recover them.

The deaths did not appear suspicious, but a report will be submitted to the office investigating the case, authorities said.

Police did not provide the names of the deceased.

The walk is listed as Grade 2 by the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), which means the use of a lanyard is not required, but some people might be more comfortable with one.

“Whatever measure you use to assess complexity—duration, exposure, or the spectacularity of the landscape—the crenellated ridge of rock looming over Glen Coe is pretty hard to beat,” says the BMC website.

“Nowhere else on the British mainland will you find a ridge of such narrow yet epic proportions; And when you add ease of access and a scenically stellar location, it’s no surprise that this is one of the most sought-after mountain rides in the country.”
