The wave of robberies in the town of Puerto Esperanza intensifies and the arrest of a man identified as 46-year-old Luis Ernesto J, after having defended himself from an attack by an alleged criminal who had already entered his home on one occasion and was raised with a toolbox, caused great outrage to the entire community.
That is why yesterday afternoon a large group of neighbors approached the police station to demand the release of the detainee.
The neighbor remains at the disposal of Justice since last Sunday, when – according to what they claim – he defended himself from the attack by Rolando B. (42), who records a record for robbery. The alleged offender ended up with a sharp injury to the wrist that required 60 days to heal.
The neighbors demand the release of the man who is defending himself and argue that the attacker should be detained not only for the attack but also for the series of robberies perpetrated in the town.
“It is not possible for Ernesto to continue being detained, when the criminal is the one who should be detained, he lives hanging around the neighborhood and always stealing. We call the police and he doesn’t show up. We need more security, we can no longer continue like this without being able to leave our homes,” said Maria Gonzalez, wife of the detained man.
For its part, another group of residents of Puerto Esperanza summoned the entire community to a meeting to discuss how they will proceed in the face of the problems that have been occurring, the most worrisome being insecurity and the repeated cuts in the electricity supply. The meeting will be this Saturday at the headquarters of the Foundation for a smile.
