They present a resolution to dismiss the attorney of the City of Miami

MIAMI.- The new commissioner of Miami, Miguel Ángel Gabela, presented a proposal for resolution which aims to remove the current lawyer of the City, Victoria Méndez, for alleged errors committed in the exercise of her position.

The request of the representative of district 1 was included in the agenda of the session that will take place in the Miami Municipal Commission, next Thursday, December 14.

The resolution, which if approved by local legislators would have immediate effectis supported by a series of alleged procedural errors committed by Méndez.

Alleged errors of the municipal lawyer

Commissioner Gabela’s criticisms include flaws that Méndez supposedly incurred, which prevented the municipal government’s budget from being approved on time. He also questions a court case involving Commissioner Joe Carollo.

Days before the meeting, Commissioner Gabela asked the City in a communication how much it spends on outside lawyers in its legal office, how many cases have been lost and how much of the city attorney’s budget has been allocated to defend legislator Carollo in some lawsuits. .

Méndez has held the position of City Attorney since 2013. Their average salary is $300,000.. In 2016, then-Commissioner Ken Russell unsuccessfully proposed his removal.

Gabela replaced Alex Díaz de la Portilla in the District 1 seat, previously removed by Governor Ron DeSantis and then defeated by Gabela in the November 21 runoff elections.
