Miami-Dade police released surveillance video of the alleged murder of a Homestead man who was shot in front of his mother and son on May 29, according to authorities. Now they are asking for help to find 19-year-old Monico Galban, who is wanted for this crime.
According to authorities, the victim, who on Monday was identified as 27-year-old José Guajardo, was outside on the front lawn of his home when Galban approached on foot and shot him.
According to investigators, uniformed officers from the Homestead Police Department were dispatched to the scene by a ShotSpotter alert in the area of 528 and 3rd Avenue in the Northwest (NW).
While on their way to the scene, they received information that an adult male had been shot. Upon arrival, they discovered Guajardo lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. The Miami-Dade Fire Department responded and airlifted him to the Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, where, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries days later.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in the front yard with her mother and a one-year-old toddler when the subject approached on foot, drew a firearm, and shot her. The subject then fled the area. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified the shooter as Monico Galban and are requesting the community’s help with any information on his whereabouts.
“Well yes, they were like two more times, like a machine gun, like 20 or 30 bullets, they were twice and then they were like five or six bullets and one at a time,” said Henry Carrillo, a witness who was near the scene. .
The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where despite medical efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries days later.
