Three years after the assassination of the head of the assassins of the narco clan of Stephen Alvaradothe trial began against the main defendants: two members of the gang of “The monkeys”, who shot the man as part of a reckoning for a previous attack. The prosecution demanded sentences of more than 20 years for the planning and execution.
The crime occurred on March 19, 2020, in the west area of rosary beadswhen the victim Rodrigo Sanchezhe was driving his truck toyota hilux Wilde Street around 1:00 p.m., but at the height of the street San Lorenzowas intercepted by a Renault Loganof which two subjects, who, in a matter of seconds, riddled him.
The main defendants in the case are Jonathan Brezik and Rodrigo Benitez. While the first is accused of being the one who planned the crime from prison, it is believed that the second is the one who would have executed it.
The weapons used were a 9-millimeter pistol and another 45, while the vehicle used for the crime was a remis stolen a few days before by Hector BrezikJonathan’s brother and, so far, the only one convicted of the act, since on March 30 he received a sentence of 5 years and 4 months in prison for the crimes of qualified robbery and secondary involvement in the Sánchez homicide.

During the trial, Héctor targeted Benítez and accused him of being one of the material co-perpetrators of the homicide, while acknowledging that his brother was the one who ordered him to steal the vehicle.
Although Sánchez did not have a criminal record, he was a trusted person of Esteban Alvarado, to whom he provided the elements the gang needed, as well as recruiting people to commit crimes, according to information from The capital. In fact, it was common for him to visit him in prison where he was serving pretrial detention for the cause that later sentenced him to life.
For this reason, the prosecutor Matias Ederypart of the team that is carrying out the case, framed the murder of the head of the hitmen of the narco gang in the historical disputes over the territory, the adjustment of accounts or the revenge between the main leaders of the criminal organizations that devastate Rosario, according to the information to which he was able to access telam.
In this sense, the main theory used by the Prosecutor’s Office is that the crime was an adjustment of accounts for the attempted murder of a woman named mariana nettle, who was shot outside her home in the town of Roldán a few days earlier. This person had been part of the Alvarado gang, but she moved away and later joined “Los Monos” in an attempt to seek protection from his former boss. The Prosecutor’s Office requested sentences of 22 and 25 years in prison against the two accused of the murder of Sánchez. However, Benítez’s defense argued that there is insufficient evidence to convict him, beyond the accusation of Héctor Brezik, for which he asked the court for his acquittal.
Jonatan Brezik’s lawyer, on the other hand, acknowledged that his client was the one who ordered his brother to steal the car, but that he did not know for what purpose it would be used. In the same way, Jonatan is not a person outside the operations of Los Monos, since he is the “foster brother” of the head of the gang, Ariel “Guille” Cantero. For the defense, the reason why they link him to the crime is the link that unites him with Cantero, for which he argued that his participation in the murder “will not be able to be proven.”
