A earthquake was perceived tonight in the Mexico City, although not in the whole city; Fortunately, in no area was the seismic alert.

Without damage, but with a great scare, some neighbors evacuated houses when they felt a very strong earthquake at 10:20 PM.

According to the National Seismological, it had an intensity of 3 and the epicenter was 3 km NORTHEAST of the Magdalena Contreras mayor’s office, in CDMX.

Earthquake is perceived in the center of the capital

Several videos were broadcast on social networks where people had to evacuate their homes, until they were quite sure that the telluric movements had already passed.

The movement was felt more strongly in the west and center of the city; in the south it was perceptible with less intensity, while in the north and northeast it was practically not perceived.

Regarding why the seismic alert did not sound, the Center for Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact (C5) of Mexico City said that it is not activated when the epicenter is inside the city itself.

The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection pointed out that “after establishing communication with the Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection Units of the mayors’ offices, no incidents were reported due to tonight’s earthquake. The corresponding protocols were applied. We remain vigilant.”

Some time later, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum indicated that the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection informed her that everything is calm.
