The train drivers who run the Öresund trains are among the first to go on strike if the union and employer do not reach an agreement before Monday. Although it only applies to drivers stationed in Malmö, it will affect travelers in Kalmar and Kronoberg.

– It will affect to some extent because Malmö drivers also drive the trains to and from Kalmar. But I cannot now say to what extent, says Katarina Sejsing, train manager at Kalmar Länstrafik, to SVT Småland.

The company Transdev, by which the train drivers who run the Öresund trains are employed, says that their forecast is that around 30 percent of the departures in Kalmar and Kronoberg will be canceled if there is a strike. But which departures are involved is unclear.

– We urge travelers to stay updated via the transport companies’ websites and apps, says Stefan Johansson, who is responsible for external communications at Transdev.

The Krösa trains and coast-to-coast

Even the Krösatågen can be affected by the strike because it also means a stop to all overtime, which means that no train drivers are allowed to be called in extra in case of illness or other unforeseen absences.

In addition, SJ’s Coast-to-Coast train between Gothenburg and Kalmar is indirectly affected. The first stage of the strike notice includes SJ’s maintenance supplier Euromaint in Gothenburg:

– They are responsible both for ongoing maintenance and damage that may occur during travel. We need to know that someone can repair and maintain the trains we have out on the tracks, therefore we are affected, says Martina Nord, press communicator at SJ.
