Putin orders increased production of Russian kamikaze drones Kub and Lancet

Moscow.- Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered this Monday to increase the production of the Russian kamikaze drones Kub and Lancet, produced by the Kalashnikov military consortium.

“The producers promised me to increase the production (of drones). They are complying with it, but it must be increased even more,” Putin said in a meeting with Sergei Chemezov, executive director of the Rostec corporation, which brings together 17 groups of companies, 14 of them from the defense industry.

Putin stated that both Kub and the Lancet “have proven their effectiveness” in war operations in Ukraine.

According to the head of the Kremlin, after the “powerful” attacks by Russian drones, any military equipment, including Western one, burns.

Chémezov, for his part, assured that in 2022 almost 100 percent of the state order to the defense industry will be fulfilled.

Rostec companies “fully” cover the needs of the Defense Ministry, he said.

In addition, he announced that the specialists of that corporation are now working on the creation of “small radars” to detect drones.

“Existing radars can’t always locate those targets because they fly low, and today’s radars are made to intercept higher-flying aircraft, missiles, and other (targets),” he explained.

The Russian Government approved last June a development strategy for unmanned aviation systems that provides for the gradual increase in the production of commercial drones up to one million units per year by 2035.

Production is expected to reach 370,000 units per year between 2023 and 2026, and reach the million level per year between 2031 and 2035.

In addition, it is expected that by 2036 80% of unmanned aerial systems will be Russian-made.
