Just in time for Christmas, a My Little Angel fan has masterfully crafted an FPS-style loading screen for perhaps the best-known Christmas rascal in movie history, Kevin McCallister.
The creative work is packed with witty references to the two films of My poor angel who starred Macaulay Culkinalthough especially at first.
Released in 1990, My Poor Little Angel became the highest-grossing live-action comedy for more than 20 years. The film launched the career of Culkin, who is now considered one of the most successful child actors of all time.
The festive coming-of-age story paired Culkin with the likes of Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci, best known for crime dramas like Goodfellas. The movie even spawned a handful of video games My poor angelthough its quality was questionable at best.
A few days before Christmas, an unconditional fan of My poor little angel has revealed an impressive fusion of the classic films with the aesthetics of modern video games. Twitter user bunny_ballball recently shared his creation, and it’s clear a lot of effort and passion went into it.
The artist behind the account is Simon Brewer, a professional game developer and UI artist whose Twitter bio states that he has worked on Batman: Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which will feature the late Kevin Conroy.
The image is packed with key references, many of which have become part of enduring movie myth. The imagined game is titled My Little Angel Siege by John Hughes, in the style of the current Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Siege. Hughes wrote and produced the first three films in the franchise.
A smug-looking Kevin occupies the center of the screen armed with his older brother Buzz’s BB gun. The gun comes equipped with a list of bounties, all of which are references, such as “The little jerk is armed,” a phrase Daniel Stern’s Marv yells after being shot between the eyes.
