On the other hand, she rejects the demands of climate activists to call off planned major projects such as the S18 or the Feldkirch tunnel spider. “Here we have to leave the church in the village. And as long as there are no better proposals that reconcile ecological and traffic-related interests, I will of course stick to these plans,” continues Metzler.
“Protest should be within the legal framework”
On the other hand, she shows understanding for the concerns of what is often referred to as “climate glue”, because she can understand the fears and helplessness of the young people: “Nevertheless, the protest in the name of climate protection should be within the legal framework. If that doesn’t happen, the popularity will also drop , as you can already clearly feel in the population.”

“The criticism of a climate protection law that is still missing at federal level is also understandable. Nevertheless, in view of the current situation, in which so many crises are affecting the population at the same time, we have to be aware that we cannot extinguish all fires at the same time. It is primarily important now to support people as much as possible in the face of price increases, inflation and rising energy costs.
