Tempo 100 on the domestic motorways – quite conceivable for the climate spokeswoman for the Vorarlberg People’s Party.

A topic that has always polarized people: the introduction of a 100 km/h limit on the Autobahn. And at the same time one of the main demands of those activists who caused a stir across Austria with their traffic blockades, recently in Vienna.

The representatives of Extinction Rebellion and the last generation are now getting unexpected backing from the camp they like to target for much of the climate misconduct.

Because the statement that the introduction of, at least temporary, speed restrictions on the motorways would bring many advantages, brought Christina Metzler, climate spokeswoman for the Vorarlberg People’s Party, the title “Hero” of the week in Wiener Falter.

“Such a limit has many advantages. On the one hand, it would reduce CO2 emissions by 23 percent. And on the other hand, the safety aspect also comes into play. I would also like to remind you of a planned traffic control system that could slow down traffic at rush hours, for example.” , the young member of parliament confirms her statement to VOL.AT.

“ÖVP is colorful and diverse”

Asked whether this opinion corresponds to the party line, the Lauteracher informs that many different interests also collide in the People’s Party and that the ÖVP is generally “colorful and diverse”.

On the other hand, she rejects the demands of climate activists to call off planned major projects such as the S18 or the Feldkirch tunnel spider. “Here we have to leave the church in the village. And as long as there are no better proposals that reconcile ecological and traffic-related interests, I will of course stick to these plans,” continues Metzler.

“Protest should be within the legal framework”

On the other hand, she shows understanding for the concerns of what is often referred to as “climate glue”, because she can understand the fears and helplessness of the young people: “Nevertheless, the protest in the name of climate protection should be within the legal framework. If that doesn’t happen, the popularity will also drop , as you can already clearly feel in the population.”

“The priority now is to support people as best we can”

“The criticism of a climate protection law that is still missing at federal level is also understandable. Nevertheless, in view of the current situation, in which so many crises are affecting the population at the same time, we have to be aware that we cannot extinguish all fires at the same time. It is primarily important now to support people as much as possible in the face of price increases, inflation and rising energy costs. Of course, climate protection must not be neglected,” concludes the ÖVP politician. And is always open to talks with climate protectors. And also for Tempo 100 on the domestic motorways.
