These are three points that are generally blocked in this region when a demonstration takes place: Chinatown (km 262), Expansión (km 290) and El Álamo (km 299).

TRUCES

These were taken on December 9, days after the coup of former President Pedro Castillo and on par with the start of protests across the country. During this time, protesters let vehicles pass at hourly intervals. Already on dates close to Christmas, the tracks were released in a kind of “truce” for the end of the year.

It was reported that on January 4 the protest was restarted. Despite the fact that the PNP spoke with the radicals, many of them came from agro-industrial farms. On January 19 they no longer let anyone through. The demonstrators, who demand the resignation of Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress and the call for a Constituent Assembly, have given certain ‘truces’ that last a few hours to allow the passage of vehicles, especially those that transport food and fuel.

As it became known, there is a struggle among the demonstrators: one group wants to work and another prefers to continue their fight, not allowing vehicles to pass.

Last Wednesday there was one of the most violent pitched battles so far in the protest in Chinatown. Half a hundred agents confronted the civilians to try to unblock the road. In the fray, one of the agents were savagely attacked until they were in critical condition.

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

It was reported that a contingent ofe two thousand members of the National Police were assembled at the facilities of the Special Services Unit (UCE) to move to Ica and reinforce security in the face of the demonstrations and support the unblocking of various sections of the Panamericana Sur.
