Three Cuban rafters were detained early this Wednesday after arriving on a homemade boat near Key West, in the Florida Keys, as revealed on Twitter by Samuel Briggs II, head of the Miami Sector of the US Border Patrol.

The publication indicates that migrants “were detained and processed for deportation proceedings.”

This same Tuesday, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) returned four other Cuban rafters who were intercepted near the coast of Florida.

According to a USCG publication on Twitter, the migrants repatriated on November 28 had been detained last Saturday near Marquesas Key and were traveling from illegally in an attempt to emigrate to the United States. In this regard, the post explained that the American maritime borders “are not open to unauthorized entry or illicit trafficking.”

The rafters that are intercepted at sea They are returned to Cuba in their entirety and are not later eligible to legally emigrate to the United States.

According to figures revealed in the middle of this month by the Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a total of 18,083 Cubans arrived by sea and land in the country in October alone, this is the highest number since December of last year.

Of the total, about 5,000 arrived by sea through the Strait of Florida: 4,408 through the Miami sector and 591 through the Tampa sector.

The largest volume entered through the southern border of Mexico (12,495) and 28 entered through the northern border (Canada).
