NEW YORK — The rain that has been in and out of our area for the past few days is expected to return again this weekend. But will it rain all weekend?

We saw thunderstorms on Monday, and a clear Tuesday. Wednesday with storms, and Thursday clear. So what’s coming up for Friday? You guessed it: more storms.

The sun is back on Thursday, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering in the 80s in the afternoon. The storm threat returns Friday afternoon.

As of now, the timing is similar to the previous days. Showers and thunderstorms can be expected to begin around noon and early afternoon in eastern Pennsylvania/western New Jersey and last into the evening. While the entire tri-state area has a chance to see thunderstorms, the biggest serious threat remains far to the south.

In a change in the pattern, a second day of rain and showers is expected on Saturday. The day will not be rainy and the storms will not be fully extended. But the possibility of wet weather still looms.

The good news: The rainy weather takes a break for Father’s Day, as Sunday looks clear with highs nearing 80 degrees.

But more rain is coming for the holiday of juneteenth on Monday. There remains the possibility of more rain later in the week after that as well. Summer arrives next Wednesday with temperatures slightly below average.

While it can put a damper on outdoor plans (or at least make you think twice about planning an outdoor event), rain is necessary. Large portions of the tri-state have been dry for most of spring.

Dry conditions expanded across much of northern New Jersey late last week, and much of Pennsylvania is in “moderate dry” territory. Even with Monday’s rain, especially in western New Jersey, it probably didn’t completely eliminate dry conditions.
