Mobvoi presented this week the TicWatch Pro 5, debuting its premium family of smartwatches for 2023. The accessory draws attention for also being a pioneer in other ways: it is the first watch of the brand to leave the factory with Wear OS 3 ( more precisely Wear OS 3.5), the revamped version of Google’s wearable operating system developed in partnership with Samsung, and the world’s first smartwatch to bring the Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1, Qualcomm’s latest processor for the category.

Successor to the TicWatch Pro 3, Mobvoi’s new watch debuts the Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 — presented in July 2022, the component is manufactured in 4 nm and promises an extreme leap forward compared to the Snapdragon Wear 4100, with twice the performance and reduction 50% in battery consumption. The platform is accompanied by 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, high numbers for a wearable, which should guarantee the good operation of the processor.

The 1.43-inch screen is another highlight due to the high-efficiency OLED panel, which would bring optimizations in lighting technology to further reduce energy consumption, without neglecting high definition.

We have 466 x 466 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 326 PPI (pixels per inch) — for easy comparison, a smartphone with a 6.6-inch Full HD screen has something close to 390 PPI. The panel also features Gorilla Glass with protection against scratches and fingerprints.

Promising up to 80 hours of autonomy when using the “Essential Mode”, which seems to be a kind of hibernation mode, the battery is huge with 628 mAh of capacity, being one of the largest available in a smartwatch.

Mobvoi also implemented fast charging technology, capable of recovering 65% of the charge after 30 minutes in the socket, with the company guaranteeing that even 15 minutes of recharge would be enough for a day of autonomy.

TicWatch Pro 5 has a focus on health and sports use, so the construction and features have also been given special attention. Its case combines 7000 series aluminum, one of the toughest available, with a high-strength nylon alloy and fiberglass, while the standard silicone strap is 24mm wide. There’s a rotating bezel for navigation on the side button, plus military MIL-STD-810H certification for resistance to impact, temperature, vibration and other extreme conditions.

As expected, a variety of sensors are present, including the heartbeat with alert of arterial fibrillation and other inconsistencies, blood pressure, stress levels, blood oxygenation (SpO2) and even oxygen metabolism (VO2 Max), which measures the physical conditioning of the user during the practice of exercises.

All currently available location protocols are supported (GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS), built-in compass to aid navigation, barometer and altimeter for tracking atmospheric pressure and altitude, and NFC for proximity payments.

Armed with Wear OS 3.5, TicWatch Pro 5 promises versatility thanks to access to numerous apps from the Play Store, including the new Mobvoi Health, which debuts next to the watch, allowing the user to manage settings and monitor all health metrics, with monitoring sleep between them. Although there is no official confirmation, it is also expected that the Wear OS 4 update will be made available when the system is launched later this year.

price and availability

The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 is already available abroad in a single option in Obsidian (black), with a suggested price of US$ 349, or about R$ 1,765 in direct conversion and without taxes. There is still no information about availability in Brazil.
