And the marmot says hello every day. When it comes to the shortage of skilled workers, you feel as if you are stuck in a time warp. The companies keep describing their needs, but little or nothing changes. Actually, the term skilled workers doesn’t quite describe it, it even downplays the situation a bit. Because there is not only a lack of highly qualified people everywhere in the country, but also workers in general. Not only IT professionals, engineers or teachers are desperately needed, but also staff for craft businesses, restaurants or shops. It may sound trite, but the immense shortage of staff is a serious threat to our prosperity. Blaming everything on demographic change would be too easy. Because part of the misery is homemade. Raising the retirement age beyond 67 is already being discussed, while workers in the country retire on average at the age of 63 and important workers are being lost as a result. Almost a million people are stuck in long-term unemployment, many of whom would certainly wish they could finally get a good job again. Every second woman still only works part-time, and the number of applicants for traditional training is stagnating. Although everything speaks in their favor, the campaigns for dual training obviously reach neither school leavers nor parents. At least not in the way it should be. Immigration and the Skilled Immigration Act alone cannot do it. Especially since the bureaucratic hurdles here are often too high. It is high time that we finally started to correct the mistakes.
