Twice Malmö district court has sentenced Vårdinnovation’s former CEO Damon Tojjar and two former regional officials to several years in prison. The first trial had to be redone due to suspicion of fraud.

On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal will deliver its verdict in the case that deals with corruption in connection with Region Skåne’s purchase of a new IT tool for the health centres.

New investigations

The Vårdexpressenhärvan has also brought with it other investigations and reports.

The former regional director was fired which triggered his five million parachute. For a year, he was investigated for suspected bribery after SVT revealed an invitation dinner which was paid by Vårdinnovation’s CEO. The dinner took place ahead of an important decision on the widespread introduction of Vårdexpressen in all health centers in Skåne. The preliminary investigation was dropped in the absence of evidence.

Registered lawyers

Last autumn, the CEO’s defenders also filed secret wiretapping of members of the Malmö district court as evidence in the case and argued that the prosecutor and the court cooperated. The wiretaps were disapproved as evidence by the highest court. The charges of conspiracy received the head of the Malmö district court to notify the CEO’s lawyersStaffan Bergqvist and Christina Bergenstein, to the Bar Association’s disciplinary committee.

The head of the National Anti-Corruption Unit, Martin Bresman, also believes that the CEO’s lawyers have violated good legal practice and has reported them to the disciplinary board.
