British drama series Top Boy follows the story of Sully and Dushane, two friends and drug dealers from East London, who seek to climb the ranks of the local criminal organization at any cost. Although it is indicated on Netflix that it only has three seasons, in reality, Top Boy debuted in 2011 on Channel 4, before being canceled after two seasons. In 2019, it was revived by the streaming platform Netflix for a third season, the first produced by the red N company, which focuses on Dushane returning to London after fleeing the country. In 2022, fans of the series learned that the series would be entitled to a season 5, available since September 7, which would be the final one of the show. This announcement was very surprising given the success of Top Boy. At the time of the announcement, lead actors Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson – who play Dushane and Sully respectively – released a statement paying tribute to fans: “Staying true to our original goal, every story must have an ending and so season three will be the last. It’s a chance to come full circle and end the journey in the right way.”

Top Boythe reason for the end of the series

Given the series’ revival, many fans doubted whether this was truly the end of Top Boy, despite the statements of the actors. But in view of the final episode and this epic ending, which nevertheless disappointed many spectators, there will be no return possible. If the series has stopped, the reason may be very simple, as explained by the English site Digital Spy. The authors of Top Boy wanted to end the story on their own terms and successfully, rather than risk pulling the string unnecessarily.

According to Ashley Walters, Top Boy must “to finish beautifully”

Actor Ashley Walters himself told Netflix website Tudum: “With a show this awesome, you have to end with a bang, and that’s what we do. We all fight every day to make sure we give our audience and fans of the show the most amazing ending we can .” If the rapper Drake had helped – in part – in the return of the series to the screens as he was a fan of the first two seasons, it seems that even he cannot change things this time.
