The ceremony of handing over the MTV VMAswhich takes place in the early hours of September 12-13 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, is presented as women’s big night and also the big night of Latin music.
For the first time in the history of these awards, whose first gala took place in 1984, six women compete for Artist of the Year award and for the first time a Latin artist will be recognized with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award.
Shakirawho in 2005 made history with Alejandro Sanz by singing for the first time in Spanish at this gala, will take the stage to collect this award created to recognize the careers of artists of great impact.
The Colombian singer also comes as a nominee, she has four nominations in three different categories. He ranking of the night he leads it Taylor Swift, up for eight awards, followed by SZA, with six nominations. They are followed by Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith, with five nominations each.
Not on this list Rosalia, the only Spanish woman nominated at the gala and who is only up for one award (and it is not Artist of the Year). The Catalan is the candidate for best latin song by Desperate, competes with Anitta, Bad Bunny (twice nominated), Eslabon Armado with Peso Pluma and Karol G with Shakira.
